I'm so sorry. I know the feeling of being on the outskirts and yet in my case it was totally internal because I was actually senior class president, so WHY I felt unpopular is beyond me. I think I would have felt that way if I was president of the united states. And, like you, to this day I can't sh...

Hi, It has been a long while since I started this thread, but it is all still very relevant. Avoidance is a key problem for many of us, compulsive avoidance even. We may even fall into the category of Avoidant Personality Disorder. Lately I've been having my OSPA sponsees write a list for Step One, ...

Hi, I think it may be a lot easier to own up to it online than in person. A lot of barriers are broken down in online relationships, while social stigmas in face to face relationships or aquaintances are still strong. I don't share too much about it in the real world because I find people just don't...

Thanks for posting Fern, Those are all good suggestions. My depression is under control now, and especially benfits from my exercise program, and food plan which help keep my weight right. Overweight puts me into depression, as does emotional abuse. I am learning also that criticism is just as likel...

Hi,

I'm sorry Galadriel, that you went through all that. It sucks. You are very courageous, and I am proud of you for being a survivor.

I hope you will find peace and recovery here.

Bobbi, I have to agree with you. ((((Bobbi)))) I did not make the connection in my brain that some memories felt uncomfortable were actually abuse memories. It did not happen until recently. I am 47. So I would say four years ago. Then my world turned upside down as the veil of denial came off. It w...

Ending the Madness, I believe it is called low self esteem. I definitely have had that most of my life. It is getting better now, since working the AA program for 11 years, and OSPA for 1 1/2 years. Also, not being in abusive, bullying relationships has helped a lot. Which reminds me of another thre...

Kathy, I wholeheartedly agree with the pet thing. I LOVE my pets so much, and they LOVE me. I am sure that pets love us, especially after reading the great book "The Parrots of Telegraph Hill". In it he writes about a sick parrot that he cares for who come to truly love him, and I saw in that book t...

Discussion about Depression and Picking

Hi, I sufferedd from depression a good part of my life, some of it very very severe. What is your experience with depression? I am being treated for depression still. I noticed that as my depression deepened my picking got way worse. At my worst I had 13 open sores on my face alone. I didn't know ab...

Hi Alotta, I have found that outsiders just do not get it. But certainly it would be helpful if those closest to you knew and could support you. I do however, bring it up in my AA meetings because it is my hope that one day I will find others, and I actually have found 2 already, who also pick, and ...

Fern, Thanks for sharing you story. How difficult to have had OCD even as a little one. Janine, I agree with what you said. Lara, Different people are certainly different. That is why I asked the question, though, to find out what people's thoughts are on this. Do you mind if I ask how old you are? I am 47. (reeally old!) Thanks for responding, and I'm so glad that you have a really beautiful life! luv, Spring

Jane, You are so practical. I thought it was lovely, and honest and open. What a great forum. thanks Jane. K, It doesn't sound to me like you ARE a failure, just that you THINK you are one. Big Difference. You had a job. Stripper or no. That's a job. You had a husband, didn't work out (like me), now...

Anne-Marie, lx,

I'm sorry. Not that it is a blame thing. What Anne-Marie said is right, it's our life to do with what we will. The past is past. But I do think we have to identify causes and conditions, as they are called in the AA big book. And then move forward.

Jane,

What a sad story. I'm so sorry you went through that. I'm glad you have had the opportunity to work through it. I hope you can find strength to deal with your husband in Alanon or other programs. I started the 12 step life in Alanon actually.

Take good care,

luv,

Wow, Janine, thanks for being open with us. That's the nice thing about this forum. People speak from the heart. I'm sorry your life was like that. So sorry. I'm glad the therapy has helped, it has helped me a great deal too. I went for over four years, every week. I grew up a lot in therapy. I also...
